This area has such a wide range of things to do the only question is how are you going to cram them all into one visit. For the family look no further than the thrilling ‘theme parks’, farm attractions and wildlife centres. Get away from it all in the breathtaking Peak District, perfect for outdoor activities or just relaxing. Soak up the areas rich heritage with a visit to a fascinating stately home, beautiful garden or historic town.
The Cottages are located a short drive from Alton Towers, Britain’s ‘no 1’ theme park, set in 500 acres of beautiful countryside . Enjoy the enchantment of a park that’s filled with sensational rides and attractions. Alton Towers is open from April until the beginning of November.
Drayton Manor Park is a little further to travel but with over 100 rides and an award winning zoo its well worth a visit. Also at Tamworth is the Snowdome with a wide range of run activities. In complete contrast is the subtropical Waterworld at Stoke-on-Trent with its thrilling water rides, always a hit with the children. For the less adventurous Stoke-on-Trent is the home of 'The Potteries' where you can discover how the worlds finest china is produced and buy the products at a bargain price.
Alternatively take the family on a trip to Amerton Farm, on the Stafford side of Uttoxeter, besides the farm animals you will find farm shops with gifts and crafts, a garden centre a restaurant and lots more. The Children will also enjoy the Blackbrook Zoological Park with its many animals and birds.
If you prefer the ‘great outdoors’ the Peak District is ideal, perfect for walking, cycling, pony trekking, rock climbing, or visiting underground caves. On the edge of the Peak Park is Carsington Water, providing activities such as windsurfing, sailing and fishing.
Another excellent location for walking, cycling and pony trekking is the former Royal Hunting Forest of Cannock Chase, a designated ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ where Britain’s largest herd of fallow dear roam free.
There are many National Trust properties in the area including Sudbury Hall in the adjacent village, others include the magnificent Chatsworth House and Shugborough Hall. The list goes on and on, with many other activities available in the region, including a ride on a steam train at Fox Field Railway, a game of golf, a trip on a canal boat, racing go-karts, paint balling, and hang gliding !! The possibilities are endless.
